Torah Talk…The Story of Esther: Not for Children Only
February 23, 2018 @ 10:30 pm - February 24, 2018 @ 12:00 am
We’ll be reading and discussing Megillat Esther in order to see how this is really not a children’s story, but a sophisticated adult story with themes such as living as a minority in exile and antisemitism. We’ll see how it is written in a style that leads directly to the carnivalesque atmosphere of the holiday, filled with farce, reversal of fortune and allusions to other parts of the Tanakh (Hebrew Bible). And, of course, we’ll learn while we feast on a pot luck dairy/vegetarian Shabbat dinner. Bring a dish to share.
