Who We Are

Caring for the World empowers Temple Chayai Shalom members to extend kindness and justice beyond our own community by giving back in meaningful ways. Through projects like our annual Mitzvah Day, we join together in acts of service that brighten lives and strengthen connections — whether visiting residents at the Arbors Assisted Living, helping with local clean-up efforts, or creating gifts and activities for children in need. Each effort, from assembling goody bags for Birthday Wishes to fundraising for Boston Children’s Hospital, reflects our commitment to making a positive difference in the wider world.

Caring for the World is an umbrella organization for other good works performed by various TCS organizations and committees such as Sisterhood, Brotherhood, Youth and Sr. Chai.

Saving the World, One Mitzvah at a Time

What We Do

TCS has committed to donating 30 cans of tuna and 30 cans of vegetarian soup every month. Right now, they need vegetarian low-sodium soup (kosher preferred) and canned low-sodium tuna. Please bring your donations (some flavors of Trader Joe’s boxed soup and Amy’s canned soups are good options) to TCS or you can purchase through Family Table’s Amazon wish list. The need for soup is urgent as the Greater Boston Food Bank doesn’t stock kosher soup and purchasing enough for all of their clients is impossible. Thank you for your ongoing generosity! One Sunday each year, TCS also provides up to eight drivers to help deliver groceries directly to recipients. During Chanukah, we extend our support by donating gift cards, giving parents with limited means the opportunity to choose meaningful gifts for their children.

Temple Chayai Shalom partners with the Greater Boston Jewish Coalition for Literacy (GBJCL) in providing tutors for the Arnone School in Brockton. Over the last three years there have been six TCS tutors who volunteered an hour a week to help a student in 1st through 5th grade with reading. The class work is provided by the teacher and tutors work with two students each for a half an hour a week. It is a wonderful experience working both in the school and with these children who are so appreciative of our volunteer time. The time is selected at the request of the tutor in coordination with the school schedule.
