In Grade 7, students are actively preparing for their B'nai mitzvah. Seventh graders attend only once as they will be meeting with their B'nai mitzvah tutors and the rabbi on a regular basis following the guidelines outlined in our 'Bar/Bat Mitzvah Handbook.' The 7th grade curriculum focuses on Jewish values and ethical decision making as well as an in depth look at the Jewish life cycle. As part of class, the 7th grade students participate in several field trips, including; Mayyim Hayyim Living Waters: Community Mikveh, Stanetsky Funeral Home, and the Pearl Street Cemetery. Seventh grade students are responsible for planning and implementing a Mitzvah Project.

Chai School (Grades 8-12)
The Chai School at Temple Chayai Shalom is a blend of educational and social programming aimed at keeping post B’nai mitzvah teens in Jewish life. Whether the students are studying about the Holocaust (grade 8 core class), social Justice (grade 9 core class), Jewish Ethical Decision Making (grades 10 -12 core class), Jewish cooking, genealogy, or music, students are challenged to use the lessons of our tradition and apply them to modern times.
Students have the opportunity to participate in various travel opportunities including a trip to Washington, D.C. to visit the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum as well as other historic sites; a Shabbat retreat including participation in Global Youth Service day, coming in the fall of 2010 a weekend at the Heifer Farm in Rutland, MA and a trip to New York City for an in depth view of Jewish immigration at the turn of the 20th century and a closer look at Jewish life today.
