Youth Groups (TeCSY)

Temple Chayai Shalom's Youth Groups focus on creating a social environment to complement the more formal education programs offered to our youth. Active participation in TeCSY is an excellent way for your child or teen to develop lasting Jewish friendships, a sense of pride in their Jewish identify and a connection to the TCS community. We offer youth groups for students in grades 5-12.

The temple youth committee is responsible for developing a program of youth activities for the congregation. It supports TeCSY (Temple Chayai Shalom Youth) as well as maintaining contact with our college students. The youth committee also determines policy and formulates rules for the administration of such activities. TeCSY offers fun, entertainment-oriented outings for temple youth. The group provides an easy way for children in 5th through 12th grade to stay connected to the temple outside of Religious School. Our youth organization includes both a junior and a senior group.

Children in 9th through 12th grade are part of Senior TeCSY. Junior TeCSY includes children in 7th & 8th grade. We also have an introductory program known as Taste of TeCSY for children in the 5th & 6th grade. All young people in these grades may belong to TeCSY even if their parents are not temple members.

The Board of Senior TeCSY (grades 9 - 12) plans social events with the assistance of the Youth Director. There is usually one event a month and volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Leadership opportunities for TeCSY members are available by being a board member, attending meetings, as well as participating in choosing, planning and running events. TeCSY members are also members of NFTY (North American Federation of Temple Youth) and may participate in NFTY regional events. The Senior TeCSY Youth Director assists with event planning and provides chaperones and transportation for each event.

Junior TeCSY (grades 7 & 8) plans events that provide a way to connect with other Jewish children. Activities include movie nights, game nights, mini golf, apple picking and more. There is also a Regional Shul-in for 7th and 8th graders. It is an overnight event usually held in Brookline, MA and is planned by NFTY!
